Using Pomodoro technique for software development

We need to Talk About Mental Health for Software Developers. You can read more about that here. If you manage your time perfectly, you can always achieve both your mental health and tasks! Below is what I personally following for some time now and it's working. So I wanted to share it with you all! 🙂

Intro: The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a Pomodoro, from the Italian word for ‘tomato’, after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student.

How we can use Pomodoro for a Software developer!

  1. Set your own goals for the day, prioritize your goals, and finally challenge yourself
  2. Take some rest every 25 mins.
You can take 5-minute breaks after every 25 mins and you can take a big break after few 25 mins sessions)
  3. Cheer or treat yourself once you achieve each 25 mins goal or a big goal(a big goal will come after few 25 mins sessions).
  4. Optimize yourself by learning from your Pomodoro cycles and apply in the next cycles.
  5. Recall what you have gained today, at the end of the day. You may find great achievements during the day.

TIPS: There are good mobile apps for this. For android, you can install FOCUS-TODO.
